Former Indian Currents Editor Fr Suresh Mathew elected as ICPA President

21st September 2025: Members of the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), one of the oldest Catholic media organisations in the country, elected their new office-bearers during their Annual General Body Meeting

held in Pune on Saturday September 21. Journalists, editors, and publishers from different parts of India gathered at Inigo Sadan in Jnana Deepa (Papal Seminary), Pune,

to elect the members of the new Executive Committee. Incumbent Secretary and former Editor of 'Indian Currents' magazine Fr Suresh Mathew OFM CAP was unanimously elected President of the Association, which

is more than six decades old. He succeeds veteran journalist and author Ignatius Gonsalves who served in that capacity for two terms. Vice-president Sister Tessy Jacob SSpS was elected unopposed as Secretary of the organisation.


It was unanimously decided that Fr Sajith Cyriac SSP, who has several books to his credit, would replace ICPA Treasurer and author Fr Joe Eruppakkatt SSP, as he was elected Vice-President. Incumbent Joint-Secretary and senior journalist

Renjith Leen was re-elected unopposed. During the election held on the sidelines of the Annual General Body Meeting of the Association, Fr Gaurav Nair, Editor of Indian Currents', was

named the Executive Committee member representing the North while Fr Dr S Rajasekaran, Editor-in-Chief of Tamil Catholic magazine 'Nam Vaazhvu, was chosen as the representative from the South.

Western region EC Member Rajesh Christian was re-elected while Fr Antony Pancras, Editor and Publisher of 'The New Leader' magazine in Chennai, was named the Institutional Member during the event.

The election was conducted under the auspices of Returning Officer Lawrence Coelho, a Mumbai-based senior journalist and CEO of 'The Secular Citizen', a Catholic weekly.

Fr Suresh and other Executive Committee members assumed office soon after the declaration of results. Outgoing president Ignatius Gonsalves and Bishop Henry D'Souza, Ecclesiastical Advisor of the ICPA, congratulated

the newly-elected panel and wished them the best for their three-year tenure.

The ICPA unites Catholic media professionals from across the country and it provides a platform for networking, media training, and discussions on ethical journalism.
