Feast of the Presentation of the Lord Celebrated with Solemnity and Joy in Bolpur, West Bengal

Bolpur, West Bengal, Feb. 3, 2026: The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord was celebrated with solemnity and deep devotion at Infant Jesus Church, Bolpur, drawing a large gathering of the faithful into a rich experience of prayer, light and communion.


The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Bishop Emeritus Cyprian Monis of the Diocese of Asansol, with 20 priests from various parishes concelebrating. The liturgical celebration became a visible expression of unity and shared faith, with nearly 2,500 faithful participating.


The celebration began with the traditional washing of the feet, symbolising Christian values of humility, service and love. This was followed by the blessing of candles and a solemn candlelight procession, recalling the presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple and proclaiming Him as the Light of the World.


Liturgical singing led by the parish choir enriched the prayerful atmosphere of the Eucharist. The church was thoughtfully decorated through the collective efforts of the Boys’ Hostel, seminarians, youth, novices and children of the Helpers’ Hostel, reflecting a strong spirit of collaboration and active participation within the parish community.


After the Eucharistic celebration, the faithful gathered for a common meal, fostering fellowship and strengthening bonds of fraternity. The programme concluded with traditional dances that added joy and cultural vibrancy to the occasion. The presence of noted Santhal singer Stephen Tudu further enhanced the festive spirit.


The celebration of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in Bolpur stood as a vibrant witness to faith, unity and cultural harmony, leaving a lasting impression on all who took part.
