Meghalaya, 16 May 2026: In a proud and inspiring moment for Don Bosco College Tura and the entire Garo Hills region, Ms Nandini Ishvi O. Sangma has been selected to represent India at the 13th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP13), scheduled to take place in Sydney from July 26 to 31, 2026.

Nandini Ishvi Sangma’s Inspiring Journey Brings Pride to Meghalaya

Her remarkable achievement has brought joy and recognition not only to her college but also to the wider community of Meghalaya, highlighting the growing presence of young leaders from Northeast India on international platforms.

A Young Voice Making a National Impact

Nandini, a student of the Department of Political Science at Don Bosco College Tura, earned this prestigious opportunity after being adjudged “Best Speaker” during the first-ever Youth Parliament held in Garo Hills earlier this year.

The Youth Parliament programme was organised jointly by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and Tura Christian College at the District Auditorium in Tura on March 2–3, 2026.

Her confident leadership, articulate speech, and deep understanding of democratic values impressed both organisers and participants, eventually leading to her selection as one of six young delegates who will represent India at the Commonwealth Youth Parliament in Australia.

Preparing Future Leaders

The Commonwealth Youth Parliament is a globally recognised platform that brings together young delegates aged between 18 and 29 from various Commonwealth nations. The programme aims to train aspiring leaders by giving them hands-on exposure to parliamentary procedures, governance, legislative debates, and democratic practices.

During the week-long event, participants will engage in mock parliamentary sessions, committee discussions, and leadership-building activities designed to nurture future policymakers and responsible public representatives.

For Nandini, the opportunity represents not only personal success but also a chance to carry the voice and aspirations of young people from Garo Hills onto an international stage.

A Moment of Pride for Garo Hills

The announcement of her selection has been warmly celebrated across the college campus and beyond. Faculty members, fellow students, and well-wishers have extended heartfelt congratulations and prayers as she prepares for this important global gathering.

Nandini’s achievement stands as an encouragement to many young students in the Northeast, proving that dedication, confidence, and hard work can open doors to opportunities far beyond one’s hometown.

As she prepares to represent India in Sydney, her journey becomes a symbol of hope, leadership, and the growing potential of youth from the region to contribute meaningfully to the world.
