Baijalbari, Agartala, January 16, 2026: The St. John Paul II Parish at Baijalbari marked a historic milestone with the solemn blessing of its parish church by Bishop Lumen Monteiro, Bishop of the Agartala Diocese.
The liturgical celebration drew priests, religious sisters and lay faithful from Baijalbari and neighbouring parishes, reflecting the unity and vibrant faith of the local Church. Among those present were provincial and parish representatives who joined the community for the significant occasion.
In his homily, Bishop Monteiro underlined the meaning of a parish church as a living house of God, reminding the faithful that while the building is made of stone, the Church itself is built on the faith, unity and love of its people. He encouraged the parishioners to take inspiration from St. John Paul II, whose life of courage, compassion and steadfast faith continues to guide the universal Church. The Bishop also congratulated the parish priest and the community for their commitment in building a worthy place of worship.
Following the Holy Eucharist and the blessing, the celebration concluded with a brief felicitation programme, during which the parish community expressed its gratitude to the dignitaries.
The blessing of the church stands as a lasting symbol of faith and hope for the parishioners of St. John Paul II Parish and will be remembered as a significant moment in the parish’s history.
