Chikmagalur Diocese Launches Year of Evangelisation

Chikmagalur, Jan 17, 2025: Launching its Year of Evangelisation, the Chikmagalur diocese formally inaugurated the initiative at Bala Yesu Shrine, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s apostolic exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Bishop Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur.

During the ceremony, Bishop Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur unveiled the official logo of the Year of Evangelisation, which incorporates symbols of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, representing the core principles of evangelisation. He also released the Diocesan Directory, a comprehensive resource designed to guide the diocese’s evangelisation efforts.

The theme for the Year of Evangelisation was “Embracing Interreligious Dialogue and Witness amidst Pluralistic Context of Karnataka.” The initiative sought to foster interfaith understanding and encourage Catholics to share their faith within the region’s pluralistic society.

The launch marked the beginning of a year-long focus on revitalising evangelisation efforts within the diocese. The event was attended by Fr. Charles Pereira, Chancellor of the diocese; Fr. Shanthraj, Dean of Chikmagalur Deanery; and other priests.
