Simla, January 17, 2026: An orientation programme on Synodal Approach in Faith Formation: YOUCAT Catechesis was held at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Chandigarh on January 17, 2026.

The programme was organised by the Diocese of Simla–Chandigarh and brought together about 155 participants, including priests, religious and lay faithful from the five deaneries of the diocese.

In his keynote address, Bishop Sahaya Thattheus, Bishop of Simla–Chandigarh, stressed the need to strengthen YOUCAT catechesis and family catechesis within the diocese. He highlighted the role of families as the primary place for nurturing faith and passing on Christian values.

The resource person, Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Faith Formation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, spoke on the basics of catechesis in the context of the synodal approach. He outlined practical ways to implement synodal catechesis at parish, deanery and diocesan levels through collaboration and shared responsibility.

Bishop Emeritus Ignatius L. Mascarenhas was also present. A key moment of the programme was the release of the YOUCAT Catechism, aimed at promoting participatory and youth-centred catechesis in the diocese.

The programme concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to fostering a synodal culture in faith formation through dialogue, accompaniment and active participation.
