Bengaluru, July 4, 2026: The Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA) has invited nominations for the CBCI Office for Scheduled Castes/Backward Classes Special Award 2026, which recognises outstanding reportage promoting the cause of Scheduled Castes (Dalits) and other marginalised communities.
The award will be presented during the National Convention of Christian Journalists, scheduled to be held at Paalana Bhavana, Bengaluru, on September 19, 2026.
Instituted by the ICPA in collaboration with the CBCI Office for Scheduled Castes/Backward Classes, the award seeks to honour a Christian journalist, publication, writer or author whose reporting or advocacy has significantly contributed to promoting the rights, dignity and welfare of Dalits and other socially marginalised people.
According to the ICPA, nominations may be submitted by any individual recommending a deserving Christian journalist or publication. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
The nomination dossier must include a recommendation letter from a person of repute, two passport-size photographs of the nominee, and copies of the published work. For entries in regional languages, the headlines or titles should be translated into English. The organisers have also requested that the nominee's contact details be provided only in the covering letter and not on the published copies.
The last date for submitting nominations is July 20, 2026.
The ICPA has appealed to members of the Christian media and the wider community to identify and recommend journalists and publications that have made noteworthy contributions to advancing the cause of Dalits through responsible and impactful reporting.
Nominations should be submitted by email to indiancatholicpress@gmail.com, frsureshmathew@gmail.com, tessyvm@gmail.com, or sajithssp@gmail.com.
The announcement was released on July 1, 2026, by Tessy Jacob SSpS, Secretary of the Indian Catholic Press Association.
