Carol Programme Held in Rayagada Cathedral in Odisha

Rayagada, Odisha, December 11: Christmas preparations at Mary, Queen of the Missions Cathedral began on a devotional note as the parish youth formally launched their annual Carol Singing ministry on Thursday evening.

The initiative opened with a short prayer service at the cathedral, after which Parish Priest Fr. Abed Kumar Khura blessed the youth group and commissioned them for the outreach. He described carol singing as a meaningful expression of the Christian proclamation rather than a seasonal custom, urging the participants to carry the message of Christ’s birth with reverence and purpose.

Drawing from passages in the Gospel of Luke, he reminded the youth of the Nativity message — “For unto you is born this day… a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” — and prayed that the homes they visit would experience peace and goodwill during the festive season. He also invoked the angelic proclamation of Luke 2:14 and entrusted the carol ministry to God.

Following the commissioning, the youth set out across their assigned areas, singing carols and meeting families as part of their annual tradition. Parishioners welcomed the group warmly, with many describing the visit as a moment of comfort and festive encouragement. The youth said they hope to bring light and joy to the community.
