Cardinal Ferrão Blesses New Wing of Pilar Sisters’ Generalate

Goa, October 12, 2025: His Eminence Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, blessed the renovated chapel and inaugurated the new wing of the Generalate of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Pilar.

In his homily on the theme “Our Lady of Pilar: A Pillar of Hope, Refuge of Missionaries,” the Cardinal invited the faithful to look to Mary as a “Pilgrim of Hope” and model of missionary discipleship. Reflecting on the Jubilee Year theme, “Hope Does Not Disappoint,” he urged all to live as pilgrims of hope rooted in faith.

“Mary lived as a pilgrim of hope by doing God’s will and trusting His plan,” he said, citing Gospel moments such as the Annunciation and the Wedding at Cana that reveal her faith and missionary spirit.

Referring to the Synodal journey, Cardinal Ferrão reminded the faithful that a Synodal Church must be a witnessing Church, drawing strength from prayer, Scripture, and the Sacraments. “Be rooted in Jesus,” he said. “This rootedness empowers us to serve with dedication.”

Fr Nazareth Fernandes, SFX, Superior General of the Society of Pilar, inaugurated the new wing. A brief felicitation followed the Eucharistic celebration, honouring those who contributed to the project.

Sr Luiza Fernandes, MSP, Superior General, expressed gratitude to the Cardinal, the Society of Pilar, donors, and benefactors, recalling the congregation’s heritage and mission of hope and service.

Sr. Dalhilda Carvalho Msp served as the liturgical commentator. The celebration was further enriched by liturgical singing led by Youth Saviourites choir. Sr. Corina Pereira MSP anchored the felicitation programme.

The event marked a moment of thanksgiving and renewal as the new wing stands as a symbol of faith and continued commitment to the mission of the Pilar Sisters.
