Berhampur, January 14, 2026: Emphasising unity, shared responsibility, and the synodal journey of the Church, Bishop Sarat Chandra Nayak of Berhampur addressed the Pastoral Plan Workshop of Odisha’s Berhampur Diocesan Synod, held on January 8–9, at the Bishop’s House, Berhampur.
The bishop said, “It is very important to overcome communalism in life and mission of the Church. The synodal journey calls everyone to walk together as the People of God.” He further affirmed, “Let us overcome attitudes of clericalism and officialism, which hinder listening, participation, and shared responsibility within the Church.”
Father Thomas Parayil, coordinator of the Diocesan Synod, said, “The workshop was a historic milestone in the pastoral journey of the Diocese, where the participants demonstrated a strong spirit of communion, collaboration, and shared responsibility.”
He added, “It was also a significant moment in the life of the Diocese, bringing together clergy and religious leadership in a collective effort to discern and shape the future pastoral direction of the local Church.”
Father Joseph Xavier, S.J., the resource person, said, “The participants engaged in group discussion, sharing insights and proposals for shaping a realistic and effective diocesan pastoral plan.” He emphasised that the process focused on reflection, dialogue, and mutual understanding.
A total of 116 participants, including diocesan priests, parish priests and superiors of convents and institutions, took part in the programme.
