Bandra Basilica in Mumbai Inaugurates Perpetual Eucharistic Chapel

Mumbai, February 21, 2026: The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount inaugurated a permanent Blessed Sacrament Chapel on February 20, creating a dedicated space for continuous Eucharistic adoration at the Marian shrine and drawing large numbers of pilgrims to prayer.

The chapel was formally inaugurated by Fr. Vernon Aguiar, Rector of the Basilica, in the presence of clergy and faithful of the Archdiocese of Bombay. Special prayers were led by Fr. Sunder Albuquerque, invoking God’s blessing upon the newly consecrated space.

Situated beside the shrine’s side altar, the restored chapel has been enhanced with renewed frescoes, updated lighting, and a bronze tabernacle at its centre. A marble arch frames the altar area, underscoring the chapel’s purpose as a place of Eucharistic devotion.

Following the inauguration, the Blessed Sacrament was solemnly exposed for adoration, and the faithful gathered in prayer. Church authorities described the chapel as a spiritual haven for pilgrims seeking quiet reflection and communion with Christ.

Fr. Aguiar invited devotees visiting the Marian shrine to spend time in Eucharistic adoration and offer prayers of thanksgiving. Throughout the day, pilgrims from across Mumbai and neighbouring areas visited the chapel, many pausing in silent prayer.

With the inauguration of the Eucharistic Chapel, the Basilica strengthens its role as a centre of faith and spiritual renewal in the Archdiocese.
