Hyderabad, February 27, 2026: Clergy, religious men and women, and ecumenical pastors gathered for a one-day formation programme organised by the Archdiocese of Hyderabad at Vianney House, focusing on spiritual renewal, pastoral discernment, and the deepening of shared missionary responsibility during the Jubilee Year.
The programme provided participants with a space for reflection on the Church’s mission in contemporary India, encouraging renewed commitment to evangelisation and communion. Organisers emphasised the need to reconnect with the sources of faith while responding creatively to evolving pastoral realities.
Addressing the gathering, Cardinal Poola Anthony described the Holy Land as a “Living Gospel,” underscoring that pilgrimage is not merely travel but a transformative spiritual experience. He noted that when rooted in prayer, Sacred Scripture, and the Sacraments, pilgrimage renews faith and pastoral zeal. He urged pastoral leaders to proclaim the Gospel through witness, service, dialogue, and respect, making Christ present through compassion and solidarity.
A session on Holy Land awareness, organised in collaboration with the Israel Ministry of Tourism, explored the spiritual and historical significance of pilgrimage and offered insights into shaping journeys that foster a deeper encounter with the Gospel.
The theme of communion and shared mission was further developed in a session led by representatives of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India, who highlighted the importance of co-responsibility and collaborative pastoral engagement, particularly in rural mission contexts across India.
The presence and message of Bishop Rt. Rev. Josh D’Souza reinforced the programme’s emphasis on unity and collective pastoral responsibility. The formation concluded with prayer, sending participants forth renewed in missionary enthusiasm and committed to fostering communion and proclaiming the Gospel with courage and love in Hyderabad and beyond.
