A Wife’s Faith, A Husband’s Healing: The Miracle at Vailankanni

Twenty-six years ago, life for Asha James and her husband, Rodrick James, seemed shadowed by suffering and uncertainty. Before their marriage, Rodrick was diagnosed with a severe eye condition — non-S collagen disorder — which often left him in excruciating pain, unable to open his eyes, and struck by bouts of fever. Frequent visits to doctors, operations, and a constant routine of medication had become part of their lives.

Despite the challenges, the couple married on 29 December 1999. Two years later, they were blessed with a son. “By God’s grace, everything was going well,” Asha recalls. But the peace was short-lived. Rodrick's condition returned, more troubling than before.

In 2001, the family planned a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Vailankanni, Mother of Good Health, for their son’s tonsure ceremony. During the journey, Rodrick again developed a high fever, and his eyes grew worse. “When we reached Vailankanni, I insisted he see a doctor,” Asha recounts. “As he went into a small clinic, I stood outside and prayed earnestly to Our Lady.”

Her plea was simple but full of faith: “Mother, I have come for your blessings. My husband is very ill. Please heal him.” Asha vowed that if he recovered completely, she would return to offer a golden eye in thanksgiving.

“The miracle happened that very moment,” she says with conviction. “The next day, his eyes were completely healed — not a trace of infection remained.” Filled with joy, the family returned home, their hearts overflowing with gratitude.

Years later, in 2005, Rodrick expressed a desire to visit Vailankanni again. Asha declined at first — only to watch, that very night, her husband’s eye condition return. Terrified, she turned once more to Mother Mary, begging forgiveness and promising to fulfil her vow. The following day, the family travelled again to the holy shrine, offered the golden eye, and prayed in thanksgiving.

“From that day till today,” Asha testifies, “my husband has never suffered from that illness again. Through the intercession of Mother Mary, he has remained completely healed.”

Two and a half decades later, Asha’s faith burns stronger than ever. “I will never forget this grace in my life,” she says. “My husband was totally healed by the blessing of Our Lady of Vailankanni, Mother of Good Health. I firmly believe in her miraculous power.”

Asha concludes her moving testimony with gratitude: “I thank Assisi Media, Nagpur, for giving me this opportunity to share my experience and the blessing our family received through the loving intercession of Mother Mary.”

Indeed, faith moves mountains — and in Asha’s life, it restored sight, hope, and healing.
