“You Are Not Lost, You Are Becoming”: Shilpa Ekka Leads Reflective Session on Youth, Emotions, and Relationships

Pilar, Goa, January 31, 2026: The 2nd National Fransalian Youth Conference, underway at Pilar from January 30 to February 1, featured a reflective and interactive session on its second day as youth leader Shilpa Ekka engaged participants on the theme “Emotions and Relationships That Shape Our Future.” Drawing on her experience in youth leadership, public life, and faith-based ministry, Ekka invited young people to reflect on a central question: “Who am I becoming?”

Addressing the everyday challenges faced by youth—including pressure to succeed, fear of failure, loneliness, relationship struggles, and social media-driven comparison—Ekka encouraged participants to view these experiences not as shortcomings but as part of a natural process of growth. The session, marked by open dialogue and group sharing, created a safe and inclusive space for honest reflection and mutual learning.

A major focus of the discussion was understanding emotions as signals rather than obstacles. Ekka emphasised that emotions are neither shameful nor negative, but when left unmanaged can influence decisions and strain relationships. She offered practical strategies such as pausing before reacting, expressing feelings respectfully, seeking support, and making space for silence and prayer.

The role of relationships in shaping personal and social futures also featured prominently. Ekka underlined that healthy relationships are rooted in respect, trust, freedom, and mutual growth, while unhealthy ones disturb inner peace. “Any relationship that kills peace is not love,” she said, prompting thoughtful engagement among the participants.

Ekka’s reflections were informed by her diverse leadership journey. She currently serves as an elected Samiti Member and Block President of Kukudamunda Gram Panchayat in Sundargarh district, Odisha, and has held leadership roles in the Indian National Youth Congress and various church-based youth movements for more than a decade. A national award-winning youth leader, she was also the first tribal youth from India to meet Pope Francis in Rome in 2018. Her achievements in sports and dance at state and national levels further reflect a holistic approach to youth development.

The session concluded on a note of hope, with Ekka inviting young people to place Jesus at the centre of their lives and relationships. It ended with the hymn “Jesus Loves Me,” affirming the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every participant.

Participants left the session encouraged and reassured, carrying forward the message that they are not lost, but continually becoming—shaped by emotions, relationships, and values grounded in faith and purpose.
