YCS Movement Inaugurated in Bellary, Karnataka after Many Years

Bellary, Karnataka, August 28, 2025: The Young Christian Students (YCS) movement was inaugurated in the Diocese of Bellary, drawing together 120 student participants and animators from the Bellary Deanery.

Mr. Anson Nazareth, National President of YCS/YSM India, served as the chief resource person. He led an engaging training session and conducted a model cell meeting, offering practical guidance to participants. Complementing his session, Mr. Flavian Mendonca from the regional team presented the history and legacy of the movement.


The inauguration, held after many years, was marked with joy and enthusiasm. Several distinguished guests graced the event, including:


  • Fr. Mari Joseph, Former Regional Youth Director and Parish Priest of Christ the King Church
  • Fr. Paul Raj, Diocesan Commission Co-ordinator
  • Fr. Kennedy Fernandes, Assistant Parish Priest, St. Anthony Cathedral
  • Fr. Lourd Raj, Former Regional Youth Director and Diocesan Youth Director of the Bellary Diocese
  • Mr. Anson Nazareth, National Convener of YCS/YSM India


The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary and Chairman of the KRCBC Youth Commission. He commended the diocesan youth commission for reviving the YCS movement, emphasising its importance in nurturing young people in faith and leadership.


As part of the day’s proceedings, a new team of dynamic students was elected to lead the YCS in the Bellary Deanery. The programme concluded with an evaluation session led by Fr. Lourd Raj, during which each cell member shared their personal experiences and expressed joy at being part of the YCS/YSM movement.
