THE SOUL OF THE LITURGY: MUSIC IN THE SERVICE OF THE SACRED

The North East, rich in faith and culture, remains vulnerable as a source region for unsafe migration and trafficking. Over two days, 65 participants from 12 churches and Christian organisations converged, blending prayer and worship with strategic dialogue. Leaders and practitioners shared insights and experiences, collectively seeking sustainable solutions for migrants. Active involvement from the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) Commission for Migrants, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), and the Don Bosco network highlighted the Church’s commitment to safeguarding migrants and upholding the dignity of work.

Resource persons significantly enriched the discussions, bringing diverse perspectives and deep expertise to every session. Mr. Rohit Bhalla emphasised the vital role of faith communities in combating trafficking, while Ms. Aashima Samuel outlined legal and social protection frameworks. Speaking on broader systemic aspects, Mr. K.A. Jayakumar highlighted development and policy perspectives. Exploring practical solutions, Fr. Joe Prabhu SDB and Fr. George Mathew SDB spoke on skill-building and livelihood opportunities, while Dr. Jayakumar (Retd. IAS) offered valuable insights on governance.

The conclave underscored the power of ecumenical collaboration in protecting vulnerable communities, strengthening livelihoods, and advancing God’s Kingdom through justice and solidarity. As Rohit Bhalla, Convenor of PUSH India, remarked: "When the Church stands together in faith and action, we can transform migration from a story of vulnerability into a journey of hope."
