Women Empowerment Seminar Training of the Trainers' Held in Jhansi

A two-day Women Empowerment Seminar focusing on “Training of the Trainers” was organised by the Jhansi Diocese from January 29 to 30, 2026, at the Pastoral Centre, St. Jude Shrine. The initiative aimed to equip women leaders with theological insight, personal formation and practical tools to strengthen their role in the Church and society.

The programme was led by Sr. Lidwin Fernandes UFS, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Women, who guided participants through reflections designed to help women rediscover their dignity, identity and God-given purpose. Drawing from Scripture and lived experience, the sessions encouraged participants to view empowerment as both a spiritual and practical journey.

Opening the seminar, Sr. Lidwin reflected on the question of womanhood, drawing inspiration from Genesis 2:18. She emphasised that woman was created not as inferior, but as a unique and equal partner in God’s plan, entrusted with a sacred responsibility in creation. Highlighting womanhood and motherhood as vocations of co-creation, she underlined the dignity and purpose inherent in every woman’s life.

The second day focused on women as bearers of the Gospel, with particular reference to Mary Magdalene, honoured as the first witness of the Resurrection and known as the “Apostle of the Apostles.” Sr. Lidwin noted that an authentic relationship with Christ empowers women to proclaim faith courageously, even amid doubt and adversity. Healing and transformation, she said, emerge through prayer, trust and faith in God’s timing.

Sessions also reflected on the biblical foundations of the Women’s Commission, stressing that its mission continues to be guided by the Holy Spirit. Participants were encouraged to assume leadership roles, engage in decision-making processes and participate actively in parish life with confidence and responsibility.

Emphasis was also placed on the compassionate and forgiving nature of women. Reflections highlighted forgiveness, service and attentiveness to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as essential elements of Christian living. Discussions on womanhood and motherhood further underscored women’s role in nurturing faith, values and life across generations.

As part of the seminar outcomes, participants developed a concrete plan of action. Those trained through the programme will conduct similar empowerment seminars in parishes throughout the diocese, ensuring wider outreach and sustained formation at the grassroots level. The diocese also resolved to continue the Training of the Trainers initiative in the future.

The seminar concluded with a general gathering of women from across the Jhansi Diocese, reflecting unity, shared purpose and collective strength. The programme was described as a deeply enriching experience that strengthened faith, renewed confidence and reaffirmed the vital role of women in the Church and society. The Jhansi Diocese expressed its gratitude to Sr. Lidwin Fernandes and the CCBI Commission for Women for their guidance and support.
