Western Region Youth Conference Highlights Faith Formation and Leadership

Vasai, Jan 21, 2026: Bringing together youth representatives from 13 dioceses, including the Kalyan diocese of the Syro-Malabar Church, the Western Region Youth Conference 2026, themed “Walking with the Lord; Witnessing His Love” (Jn 15:27), was held from 16 to 18 January at Aatmashod Kendra in Vasai. The three-day gathering focused on faith formation, family life, leadership, and care for creation.

Delivering the inaugural address, Bishop Thomas D’Souza of Vasai reminded the youth that they are the present strength of the Church. He urged them to walk closely with the Lord, witness His love in daily life, strengthen families, care for creation, and reflect Christ’s compassion, integrity, and spirit of service in all that they do.

A key highlight of the conference was the election of the Western Region Youth Council for the 2026–2028 term, which was conducted in a prayerful and democratic spirit, reinforcing youth leadership and active participation across the region.

Calling on young people to deepen their commitment to faith and responsibility, the conference featured a series of focused and impactful sessions. Fr. Nilesh Tuscano, in his session on “Youth Faith Formation,” encouraged the youth to nurture a personal relationship with Christ. Fr. Alwin Tuscano addressed “Youth for Family and LGBTQ+,” stressing the importance of compassion, dialogue, and Gospel-based responses to contemporary realities. Major Franklin, speaking on “Man, Army and Nature,” highlighted discipline, integrity, responsible leadership, and care for the environment.
