Vatican to open “100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican” exhibition for Christmas and Jubilee Year

Vatican City, 5 December 2025 — An international exhibition titled “100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican” will open on 8 December under the colonnade of St Peter’s Square, bringing together a diverse array of artistic representations of the Nativity from around the world to coincide with the Christmas season and the ongoing Jubilee Year 2025.

The exhibition, part of the Dicastery for Evangelisation’s “Jubilee is Culture” initiative, will run until 8 January 2026 and feature more than 130 nativity scenes created by artists and communities from over 20 countries. Displays will include traditional and contemporary interpretations, with works crafted from an eclectic mix of materials and styles, some even incorporating unconventional elements such as parts from a bus or a tannery drum.

Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelisation and chief organiser of the Jubilee programme, is scheduled to inaugurate the exhibition, which celebrates both the universal Christian understanding of the Incarnation and the rich cultural expressions of global nativity traditions.
