University of Madras Launches First-Ever Certificate Programme in Vatican II Council Studies

CHENNAI, June 1, 2026: The Department of Christian Studies, University of Madras, in collaboration with the Liturgy Commission of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, has announced admissions for the first-ever Certificate Programme in Vatican II Council Studies, marking a significant milestone in theological and ecclesiastical education by offering a systematic study of the documents, vision, and enduring relevance of the Second Vatican Council.


According to the announcement, the programme is designed for clergy, religious, catechists, theology students, educators, and lay faithful who wish to deepen their understanding of the Church’s renewal and mission in the modern world as articulated by Vatican II.


Online applications are currently open through the University of Madras admission portal. The last date for submission of applications is June 1, 2026.

Applicants have been advised not to pay the semester fee until their admission is formally confirmed by the Department of Christian Studies.
