Three Deacons Ordained Priests in Agartala

Agartala, Tripura, 4 January 2026: Three deacons were ordained priests on 3 January 2026 in Agartala, marking an important moment in the life of the local Church and reflecting God’s blessings upon the Diocese.

The ordination took place at Christ the King Parish, Depacherra, and brought together clergy, religious, lay faithful, and youth from across the Diocese of Agartala and the North-East region. The gathering was centred on prayer and thanksgiving.

Bishop Lumen Monteiro, C.S.C., D.D., Bishop of Agartala, ordained the three deacons to the priesthood. The faithful expressed gratitude to God for the gift of the new priests to the Church.

The newly ordained priests are Fr. James Kaipeng from Moharpara Parish, the first priest from the Kaipeng tribe ordained for the Diocese of Agartala; Fr. Khakchang Uchoi from Depacherra Parish, the first priest from the Uchoi tribe ordained for the Diocese; and Fr. Sagar Bandhu Molsom, S.D.B., from Pitra Parish, the second priest from the Molsom tribe and a Salesian priest serving youth in the spirit of St. John Bosco.

The participation of clergy and faithful from different parts of the region highlighted the wider significance of the ordination for the local Church.

The faithful continue to pray for more priestly vocations in the state for the service of God’s people.
