Vatican City, July 4, 2025: Pope Leo XIV will preside over several significant liturgical events in August and September, the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff announced on Thursday.
The Pope will begin his August engagements with a major celebration on Sunday, August 3, when he will preside over a morning Holy Mass for the Jubilee of Youth. The liturgy will take place at Tor Vergata, on the outskirts of Rome—a site remembered for the historic Mass celebrated by Saint John Paul II during the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000.
On Friday, August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Pope Leo will preside over a Eucharistic celebration in the Pontifical Parish of Saint Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo.
September Celebrations
On Sunday, September 7, the Holy Father will celebrate Mass in Saint Peter’s Square to canonise Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and Blessed Carlo Acutis. Pope Leo had announced the date for their canonisation during his first Ordinary Public Consistory on June 13.
One week later, on Sunday, September 14, in the afternoon, the Pope will preside over an Ecumenical Commemoration of the New Martyrs and Witnesses of the Faith at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.
The final liturgical event on the Pope’s public schedule for September is the Mass for the Jubilee of Catechists, to be celebrated in Saint Peter’s Square on Sunday, September 28, in the morning.
