Belgaum, Karnataka, August 9, 2025: The Diocese of Belgaum held its Annual Clergy Retreat from 4 to 8 August 2025 at Sevalaya Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Dharwad. The week offered the priests a valuable opportunity to step away from their pastoral duties, embrace silence, and renew their spiritual commitment to their mission.
Fr. Peter D’Souza, Director of Sevalaya, extended a warm welcome to all the clergy and, along with his dedicated team, ensured their comfort and well-being. From well-arranged accommodation to nourishing meals, every detail reflected thoughtful hospitality, making the retreat a refreshing and uplifting experience.
The sessions were led by Fr. Michael D’Cunha, Scripture Professor at St. Pius X College, Goregaon East, Mumbai. Drawing on his biblical expertise and pastoral experience, Fr. Michael guided the clergy in reflecting deeply on their vocation. He addressed key themes, including overcoming pastoral challenges, navigating psychological and relational issues, cultivating a strong prayer life, and adopting a holistic spiritual perspective in priestly ministry.
The retreat provided a sacred space for the priests to immerse themselves in God’s Word, renew their commitment to Christ, and draw fresh inspiration for their pastoral work. Participants described it as a time of grace, offering both divine enrichment and spiritual strengthening for the diocese.
The event concluded with a Solemn Mass celebrated by Bishop Derek Fernandes. In his homily, Bishop Fernandes summarised the main insights from the retreat and urged priests to integrate this renewal into their daily ministry. A brief felicitation programme followed, expressing gratitude to the preacher and all those who contributed to the retreat’s success.
With hearts renewed and spirits strengthened, the clergy of the Diocese of Belgaum returned to their parishes ready to serve with deeper faith, joy, and pastoral dedication.
