“Pope Francis Tumko Antim Vida” – A Musical Farewell Tribute by Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza

Vasai, 25 April 2025: In a heartfelt tribute marked by sorrow and reverence, Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza of the Diocese of Vasai has released a soul-stirring Hindi song titled “Pope Francis Tumko Antim Vida” (“Pope Francis, Our Final Farewell”), mourning the passing of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, who entered his eternal rest on Easter Monday, 21 April 2025, at 7:35 AM.

Composed and performed by Fr. D’Souza, with lyrics co-written by him and Archana Johri, the musical tribute expresses profound grief and enduring gratitude. It honours Pope Francis’ legacy of humility, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the Church and humanity. The lyrics capture the depth of personal and collective loss felt by the faithful across the world:

Just over a month earlier, on 13 March 2025, Fr. D’Souza had released another musical offering titled “Pope Francis Aapko Salaam” to mark the twelfth anniversary of Pope Francis’ papacy. That composition, inspired by the Holy Father’s recent recovery and hospital discharge, celebrated his life with joy, prayer, and admiration.

Reflecting on this unexpected turn of events, Fr. D’Souza shared with a heavy heart:

“When I created ‘Pope Francis Aapko Salaam,’ I rejoiced in his recovery, hoping for many more years of his wisdom and love. But God had another plan. With deep sorrow, I now offer this song not only as a farewell, but as a prayer of gratitude for a life that taught us how to love, serve, and lead with Christ-like humility.”

Fr. D’Souza, a renowned Catholic priest, composer, lyricist, director, and singer, is known for his devotional music in Hindi, Marathi, and Konkani, which often addresses spiritual and social themes. Through his YouTube channel Christ Love Music, he has shared numerous original compositions, including tributes to St. Mother Teresa and St. John Paul II, and has collaborated with some of India’s legendary playback singers.

“Pope Francis Tumko Antim Vida” continues Fr. D’Souza’s legacy of musical ministry — this time in mourning — as a solemn offering of love and farewell from India to the Universal Church.
