Pope Francis Concelebrates Mass at Gemelli Hospital Chapel

Vatican, 17 March, 2025: Pope Francis concelebrated Mass in the private chapel of Gemelli Hospital on Sunday morning, according to the Holy See Press Office. A photograph released by the Press Office shows the Pope in prayer following the Eucharist, marking his first public image since his hospitalisation on 14 February.

The Holy See Press Office reported that Pope Francis’ medical condition remains stable. His treatment includes pharmacological therapy, respiratory therapy, and physiotherapy, which are ongoing. The Pope has reportedly benefited particularly from physiotherapy.

On Sunday, Pope Francis did not receive visitors but continued with some work. The Holy See Press Office described his clinical situation as “complex” despite his stable condition.

Medical updates are now being issued less frequently, but the Press Office continues to provide daily updates on the Pope’s health. Around 700 accredited journalists are following developments, a number that has increased since his hospitalisation.

In his Sunday Angelus reflections on 16 March, Pope Francis described his experience as a “period of trial” and said he had united his prayers with those of other sick people, describing himself as “fragile” at this time.
