Calicut Diocese Celebrates International Women’s Day with Unity and Reflection

Calicut, Kerala, March 15, 2025: The parishes of Calicut Diocese came together to celebrate International Women's Day with enthusiasm and reverence on March 8, responding to a call from the Director. The event was marked by Holy Eucharist services, sermons reflecting on the theme “Accelerate Action... A Call for Change,” and special recognitions for women who have made significant contributions to society. The celebrations aimed to acknowledge, appreciate, and reflect on the role of women while fostering a commitment to positive change in communities.


The Holy Mass was the central event in all parishes, with many women leading the entire service. Parish priests delivered sermons emphasizing the need for action and change in society concerning women's rights and empowerment. Special recognition was given to women dedicated to social upliftment, particularly those supporting marginalized communities. In several parishes, these women were honored with mementos as tokens of appreciation.


Further, women excelling in spiritual activities, such as Bible quizzes and Lectio Divina, were recognized for their commitment to faith. A particular focus was placed on widows and single women, celebrating their resilience and unwavering strength in fulfilling

responsibilities within the community.


The event also served as a platform for reflection on women’s roles in society, reinforcing values such as kindness, patience, faithfulness, and the importance of love and forgiveness over resentment. Discussions encouraged women to lead by example, fostering a culture of support and understanding.


The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to upholding dignity, equality, and love in everyday life. The observance of International Women’s Day in the Calicut Diocese stood as a testament to the unwavering strength and invaluable contributions of women in faith and society.
