Pilgrims Speak: The Transformative Experience of Goa’s Walking Pilgrimage

GOA, March 9, 2025: The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman's 7th Annual Walking Pilgrimage drew a massive crowd of 28,000 participants, who embarked on a transformative 10-kilometer journey from five centers, starting at 2 a.m.


The pilgrimage, which focused on reflecting on the cross, featured scenes from Christ's passion along the route. Participants prayed, recited the rosary, and sang hymns, creating an unforgettable experience.


The event concluded at the Old Sancoale Church with Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament and a Eucharistic celebration. Several participants shared their deeply personal and transformative experiences with Catholic Connect.


Tanya Carvalho, a college student from the Parish of Corgão in Goa, described the pilgrimage as a meaningful opportunity for self-reflection and a deeper connection with Jesus. "The recitation of rosaries, the singing of hymns, and walking alongside people filled with hope and devotion created an unforgettable experience," she said.


Russel Da Cruz from Nachinola shared his experience, saying that walking alongside other groups and parishes, all reciting rosaries and singing, felt like being immersed in a sea of prayers. "The entire event was a seamless blend of prayer, reflection, and community, and I look forward to this pilgrimage every year," he said.


Sr. Justina Vaz HC, a General Councillor of the Congregation of the Handmaids of Christ, described the Annual Walking Pilgrimage as a profound encounter with God's grace. "The whispered prayers along the way deepened my connection with God and revealed the intense faith of others," she shared.


Standley Fernandes, a catechist from Seraulim Parish, Goa, reflected on the walking pilgrimage, highlighting the diverse participants, all united by their deep love for God. "I prayed for those I had hurt, seeking God's mercy and blessings," he said.


The 7th Annual Walking Pilgrimage was a testament to the power of faith and community, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who participated.
