Newly Renovated Grotto Unveiled at St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, Amravati

Amravati, March 10, 2025 – The newly renovated grotto at St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral in Amravati was inaugurated and blessed during a solemn ceremony on March 9, 2025. His Excellency, Most Rev. Malcolm Sequeira, Bishop of Amravati diocese, presided over the event alongside Fr. Ramsheen, Vicar General of the diocese. Several priests and religious persons from the diocese, along with parishioners, gathered in faith and thanksgiving to witness the special occasion.

The ceremony began with a prayerful procession leading to the beautifully restored grotto, a sacred space dedicated to Our Lady. Bishop Sequeira then blessed the grotto, praying for God’s grace upon all who seek solace and spiritual renewal at the site.

Addressing the congregation, Bishop Sequeira highlighted the grotto’s significance as a place of faith, hope, and the maternal love of Mary. He encouraged the faithful to deepen their spiritual journey through prayer and reflection at the newly renovated site.

Following the blessing, the community participated in a Eucharistic celebration. During the celebration, the bishop and clergy expressed gratitude for the dedication and effort of all involved in the renovation of the grotto.

Adding to the day’s significance, the parish also celebrated International Women’s Day, recognising the vital role of women in the Church and society. Special prayers were offered for women’s empowerment, dignity, and well-being.

The dual celebration of the grotto’s inauguration and International Women’s Day reflected the unity and spiritual vibrancy of St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, making the day a memorable and cherished event for all attendees.
