Bengaluru, July 16, 2025: The Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) conducted an online session titled “Smart Money Habits for Young Minds” on July 10, 2025. The session was held to educate young people on ways to manage their finances wisely. Dr. Maria Pramila, a Chartered Wealth Manager and Ph.D. in Finance, served as the resource person for the workshop. The event attracted 93 participants from across Karnataka, including youth, youth directors, and lay youth ministry collaborators. Ms. Steena D’Souza, spokesperson of the ICYM Karnataka Region, moderated the proceedings of the session.
The event commenced with a prayer led by Mr. Don, co-coordinator of the KRYC Core Team, followed by an address from Fr. Ashwin Cardozo, regional youth director. Mr. Jaison D’Souza, ICYM Regional Representative of the Mangalore Diocese, formally welcomed and introduced the resource person.
In her session, Dr. Pramila guided the youth on effective money management and introduced the concept of "GEM", which stands for "Grow, Earn, and Manage your money." She emphasised the urgent need for financial literacy, highlighting that only 27% of Indians are financially literate. She urged the attendees not only to educate themselves about ways to manage their finances wisely but also to spread awareness about such topics in their communities.
Dr. Pramila provided various insights and practical tips for managing money and discussed different types of insurance, including term insurance, health insurance, and disability insurance. The session included an interactive discussion, during which many of the youth present shared their doubts and sought clarification.
Participants appreciated the session’s relevance and clarity. Christopher, a youth leader from the Belgaum Diocese, noted, “Such informative sessions prepare us to plan how and where to spend and increase our wealth.”
The event concluded with Ms. Jacklin, a member of the YCS-YSM Regional Team Executive Committee from the Bangalore Archdiocese, delivering a vote of thanks.
The session successfully empowered young minds with financial knowledge and encouraged the adoption of smart money habits for a secure and prosperous future.
