Training of Trainers Empowers BEC Leaders Across Port Blair Diocese

PORT BLAIR, Andaman, July 16, 2025— The BEC Commission of the Diocese of Port Blair conducted a two-day Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop for leaders of Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) units in the diocese on July 14 and 15, 2025, at Prerna Deep, the diocesan pastoral centre in Port Blair, Andaman. 135 delegates from various parishes, including priests, religious sisters, laymen and women, and youth, participated in the event. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills and spiritual guidance to strengthen BECs across the region.

The workshop commenced with the enthronement of the Holy Bible by Bp. Visuvasam Selvaraj, Bishop of Port Blair. In his inaugural address, the bishop emphasised the central role of BECs in the Church’s mission, calling them “the heartbeat of the Church”. He urged participants to deepen their faith through active involvement in their BEC communities.

Fr. Johnson, the diocesan BEC director, coordinated the programme meticulously, ensuring a smooth and fruitful training experience for all the participants.

Fr. George Jacob SAC, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for BECs, and Sr. Meena Dangwar served as the resource persons for the workshop. They delivered sessions during the two days of the programme on several key topics, including leadership formation, building human communities, the practice of Gospel sharing, and practical guidance for implementing the CCBI Pastoral Plan.

The workshop concluded with a collaborative planning session, during which delegates devised strategies to strengthen BEC structures in their respective parishes.

The solemn closing of the Bible marked the end of the spiritually enriching and empowering event.

The two-day training workshop inspired participants to nurture vibrant BECs in their respective parishes, rooted in faith and bonded in love.
