Bengaluru, July 16, 2025 — All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) Karnataka commemorated the fourth death anniversary of Fr. Stan Swamy with a Memorial Lecture on Human Rights at St. Joseph’s Pre-University College (SJPUC), Bengaluru, honouring his enduring legacy and lifelong commitment to human rights and the marginalised.
The event opened with a welcome address by Ms. Nelisha Lobo, who emphasised Fr. Stan’s vision of justice, peace, and dignity. An inter-religious prayer led by AICUF student members reflected the inclusive spirit that Fr. Stan championed. This was followed by a floral tribute and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by dignitaries Mr. Clifton D’Rozario, Mr. Shaik Salman, Ms. Thara T, and Mr. Bhaskar.
A stirring reading of the Preamble to the Constitution by Mr. Shaik Salman served as a reminder to uphold the principles of justice, liberty, and equality. Delivering the keynote address, human rights advocate Mr. Clifton D’Rozario shed light on Fr. Stan’s life and mission, underscoring his tireless work for Adivasis, Dalits, and undertrial prisoners. He urged the youth to carry forward Fr. Stan’s legacy through active civic engagement.
The programme featured a dynamic question-and-answer session, moderated by Ms. Jassica Sharal Santhmayor. Ms. Jesvita D’Souza concluded the session with reflections on the significance of the candlelight march as a peaceful form of protest and remembrance.
Led by AICUF members, the candlelight march symbolised resistance, solidarity, and hope — values that defined Fr. Stan’s life. The evening concluded with a group photograph, capturing the collective spirit of those determined to continue his mission.
“We are all Fr. Stan” – and the march continues.
