May 16, 2026: Catholic youth from different regions of the country came together in prayer and spiritual reflection as Pentecost Novena 2026 began on May 15, fostering unity and renewed faith ahead of the feast of Pentecost.
Organised by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), the nine-day Novena will continue until May 23, offering young people an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and experience the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives.
In an effort to make the Novena more participative and spiritually enriching, ICYM entrusted each day’s animation to one of its eight regions. Through reflections, prayer services and active youth involvement, the regions are collectively leading the faithful on a spiritual journey towards Pentecost. The concluding day will be animated by the ICYM National Team, symbolising unity among Catholic youth across the country.
The Novena was inaugurated by Fr. John Barman MSFS, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Youth Commission, who delivered a brief but inspiring message encouraging young people to remain rooted in faith and united in Christ.
The opening day was animated by the ICYM Kerala Region under the theme “Love.” Fr. Anoop, Regional Director of ICYM Kerala, reflected on the Christian understanding of love, reminding participants that authentic discipleship begins with selfless love for God and neighbour.
Youth from various dioceses and regions participated enthusiastically in the online gatherings, making the Novena a vibrant moment of prayer and spiritual renewal. Organisers noted that the initiative not only strengthened the faith life of participants but also reinforced a sense of communion among young Catholics.
Pentecost Novena 2026 has also highlighted the growing commitment of Catholic youth to prayer, community life and evangelisation, reflecting the continuing role of young people in strengthening the life and mission of the Church.
