July 22, 2026: Have you ever reached a point where you wished God would simply tell you what to do?
Perhaps you're praying for a job but every door seems to close. A loved one is battling illness, and all you can do is wait. Your family is carrying burdens that no one else sees. Maybe you've been asking God the same question for weeks—or even years—and heaven feels painfully silent.
In moments like these, many of us don't need more advice. We need God's direction. We need the peace that comes from knowing He is walking with us, even when we cannot see the road ahead.

The Novena to St. Ignatius of Loyola begins today, inviting us to spend the next nine days asking the Lord for wisdom, courage, and the grace to recognise His will in our lives. As we prepare to celebrate the feast of St. Ignatius on July 31, the Church offers us an opportunity not simply to pray for answers, but to draw closer to the One who already knows them.
When Life Doesn't Go According to Our Plans
Most of us make plans. We imagine how life should unfold. We dream about careers, relationships, family, health, and security.
But life has a way of changing those plans.
A sudden diagnosis. A broken relationship. Financial uncertainty. A difficult decision. The loss of someone we love. A future that feels unclear.
It was in such an unexpected moment that the life of St. Ignatius changed forever.
As a young soldier, Ignatius dreamed of honour and success. Everything came crashing down when he was seriously wounded in battle. During his long recovery, he had no choice but to slow down. The books available to him were about the life of Christ and the saints. As he read, something began to change within him.
The dreams that once consumed him slowly gave way to a greater desire—to know Christ and to follow Him wherever He led.
What seemed like the end of his story became the beginning of God's plan.
Isn't that often how God works in our own lives?
God Speaks Even in the Silence
One of the greatest gifts St. Ignatius gave the Church is a simple but profound truth: God is always speaking—but we must learn how to listen.
That doesn't mean we hear an audible voice or receive instant answers to every prayer.
Sometimes God speaks through Scripture. Sometimes through the Eucharist. Sometimes through the quiet peace that follows sincere prayer. At other times, He guides us through faithful people, unexpected opportunities, or even through the lessons hidden within our struggles.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us of God's reassuring promise:
"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'" (Isaiah 30:21)
The Novena to St. Ignatius invites us to slow down long enough to hear that gentle voice.
More Than Nine Days of Prayer
It is easy to think of a novena as simply reciting prayers for nine consecutive days.
But a novena is much more than a routine.
It is an act of trust.

Bring Whatever Is On Your Heart
You don't need to have the perfect words before beginning this novena.
Come if you're anxious about the future.
Come if you're praying for your marriage or your children.
Come if you're searching for work.
Come if you're grieving.
Come if you're struggling with temptation.
Come if your faith has grown weak.
Come if your prayers feel dry.
Or simply come because you want to know Jesus more deeply.
There is no burden too small and no wound too great to place before the Lord.
St. Ignatius spent his life helping people discover that God can be found in every circumstance—even in the ordinary moments that often go unnoticed.
Learning to Pray with Trust
Jesus Himself encourages us:
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7)
Notice that Jesus doesn't say, "Ask once."
Prayer is often a journey of seeking, trusting, waiting, and believing.
The Novena to St. Ignatius teaches us to keep knocking—not with fear, but with confidence that our Heavenly Father hears every sincere prayer.
Sometimes He changes our circumstances.
Sometimes He changes our hearts.
Often, He does both.
Begin the Journey Today
The next nine days could become more than another devotion on your calendar.
They could become nine days of listening instead of worrying.
Nine days of trusting instead of fearing.
Nine days of allowing Christ to lead instead of trying to carry every burden alone.

Bring your unanswered questions.
Bring your family.
Bring your worries.
Bring your dreams.
Bring your whole heart.
