Manipur CM Calls on Church to Help Restore Peace

Imphal, October 18, 2026: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has urged Catholic Church leaders, teachers and students to promote peace and reconciliation amid continuing unrest in parts of the state’s hill districts.

He made the appeal while inaugurating the Catholic Valley Schools’ Sports and Literary Meet at Catholic School, Canchipur, under the theme “Together for a Peaceful Manipur”.

Describing the theme as relevant to the state’s current situation, Singh said the unrest had disrupted education and affected students’ futures. Bandhs and blockades had also caused hardship to daily wage earners and others dependent on daily income, he said.

The Chief Minister called on Church leaders and educational institutions to spread the message of peace and strengthen understanding among communities. He stressed the need for collective efforts to overcome divisions and restore normalcy.

Urging people to move beyond past incidents, Singh called for forgiveness, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, saying Manipur must contribute to the country’s development rather than allow continued disruptions to undermine the future of its young people.
