New Delhi, 10 June 2026: The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) released the Indian edition of the Encyclical Letter of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Magnifica Humanitas, at the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi on 10 June 2026.
During a brief ceremony held at the Nunciature, Msgr. Andrea Francia, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Apostolic Nunciature in India handed over the first copy to Rev. Dr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of the CCBI. Ms Caroline Bussutti and Sr. Reema Martin. O.SS.S. were also present.
Promulgated by Pope Leo XIV on 25 May 2026, Magnifica Humanitas is a landmark encyclical that addresses the opportunities and challenges presented by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. The document offers a comprehensive reflection on the impact of emerging technologies on human dignity, labour, solidarity, ethical responsibility, and the common good.
Rooted firmly in the Church’s rich social tradition, the encyclical builds upon the foundations laid by seminal documents such as Rerum Novarum, Centesimus Annus and Laudato Si’. It calls for a human-centered approach to technological development, ensuring that innovation serves the integral development of every person and promotes a more just and compassionate society.
The Indian edition has been published to make the Holy Father's teaching on artificial intelligence and its ethical implications more widely accessible to the faithful, educators, policymakers, and all those engaged in shaping the future of technology and society.
