Liturgical Seminar Held for Religious Sisters of Karwar Diocese

Karwar, Karnataka, december 6, 2025: A two-day liturgical seminar for the religious sisters of the Diocese of Karwar was conducted from 4–5 December at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Shirwad-Karwar. Organised by the Diocesan Liturgy Commission, the formation programme brought together 47 superiors and community collaborators for an intensive and purpose-driven training experience. The seminar was meticulously prepared by Fr. Cyprian Silva, Secretary of the Commission, while Dr. Rudolph Pinto, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Liturgy, served as the resource person.

The sessions explored the fundamental principles of the Church’s liturgy and emphasised their concrete application in the daily spiritual and communal life of religious communities. Since many of the sisters frequently serve in parish liturgical ministries, the seminar aimed to offer clear guidance on practical aspects such as sacred space, decorum, music, and the organisation of community celebrations. A significant focus was placed on recognising and rectifying liturgical errors and abuses that can undermine the authenticity and quality of worship.

Participants expressed genuine gratitude for the clarity, depth, and relevance of the formation. One sister noted, “Sometimes we are expected to set a standard of authentic liturgical practices, but rarely do we receive reliable formation. This was an apt opportunity.” Another participant added, “The explanations opened our eyes to overlooked practices,” highlighting the value of the insights shared throughout the seminar.

The programme concluded with a renewed collective commitment to upholding the dignity and beauty of liturgical celebrations within religious communities and across the diocese.
