Kunkuri, Chhattisgarh – 12 April, 2025: The First Additional Sessions Court of Kunkuri on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Sr. Bincy Joseph, Principal of Holy Cross Nursing College, in a case involving allegations of attempted religious conversion.
The accusations stem from a complaint by a student with reportedly poor academic performance. Sr. Bincy had summoned the student and requested the presence of her parents to discuss academic concerns. However, the student later alleged that the principal had pressured her to convert to Christianity.
In a recent interview with Catholic Connect, Sr. Bincy stated, “We are dedicated to training skilled, compassionate nurses while upholding integrity and fairness. Allegations like these go against the values we stand for. We encourage students and parents to trust our commitment to their academic and professional success.”
The student claimed that Sr. Bincy mentally influenced her and encouraged conversion — a claim strongly denied by the principal. The court, citing the seriousness of the accusation, dismissed the plea for anticipatory bail.
The case has stirred debate in the district, prompting calls from various social organisations for a fair and unbiased investigation. Police inquiries are currently ongoing.
