Darjeeling, 17 April, 2025 : On 10 April 2025, the Diocese of Darjeeling gathered in solemn celebration at St. Teresa’s Church, Kalimpong, for the annual Chrism Mass. Bishop Stephen Lepcha presided over the Eucharistic celebration, joined by priests from across the diocese in a moving expression of unity and service.
The church was filled with parishioners, religious, and lay representatives from various parishes. Before the Mass, Fr. Andrew and Sr. Sherlyn, active members of the Focolare Movement, shared heartfelt reflections on faith and hope.
A grand entrance procession of concelebrating priests set a reverent tone, symbolising the presbyterium’s unity around the bishop. During the liturgy, Bishop Lepcha consecrated the Holy Oils—the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism—which will be used throughout the year in sacramental rites across the diocese.
In his homily, the bishop reflected on the priest’s role as servant and shepherd, urging clergy to remain faithful to their ministry, especially in service to the poor and marginalised. He also expressed gratitude for their dedication and invited the laity to continue supporting their priests through prayer.
A particularly moving moment came with the Renewal of Priestly Promises, as clergy recommitted to their vocation in front of the bishop and the faithful.
The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal in the parish hall, highlighting the spirit of communion that marked the day. The Chrism Mass stood as a powerful sign of unity, faith, and mission in the Diocese of Darjeeling.
