Krishnagar Diocese Hosts Lenten Formation Centred on “The Chosen” and Consecrated Life

Krishnagar, March 18, 2026: The Diocese of Krishnagar organised a Lenten formation programme that brought together priests and religious for a day of prayer, reflection, and pastoral engagement, drawing inspiration from the popular series The Chosen.

Held at the Bishop’s House in Krishnagar, the recollection was animated by Ajin Joseph, Pro-Life speaker, musician, and Catholic Engagement Manager for The Chosen under the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India. The programme sought to deepen participants’ understanding of Christ’s life and mission during the Lenten season through a blend of spirituality and contemporary pastoral approaches.

The day began with solemn Vespers presided over by Bishop Nirmol Gomes, setting a reflective tone for the gathering. The liturgical celebration provided a spiritual foundation for the sessions that followed, fostering both personal and communal prayer.

Through sessions titled “Lent with The Chosen” and “Tell Everyone,” Ajin Joseph encouraged participants to engage with Gospel narratives through visual storytelling. The reflections highlighted how modern media can be effectively used as a tool, particularly in connecting timeless Gospel values with present-day realities.

In his preaching during the monthly recollection, he reflected on the theme “Imitating the Catholic Saints in Obedience, Chastity, and Poverty,” calling priests and religious to renew their commitment to consecrated life. Drawing from the witness of the saints, he emphasised fidelity in daily ministry.

The programme witnessed the participation of around 80 priests and religious, indicating strong engagement from across the diocese. Addressing contemporary moral challenges, Ajin Joseph also spoke on “Threats to Life,” highlighting concerns such as pornography, abortion, contraception, and gender ideology within the broader framework of Christian moral teaching.

The day concluded with a prayer service and final blessing led by Bishop Gomes, bringing to a close a meaningful Lenten initiative that sought to integrate spiritual renewal with pastoral awareness and contemporary concerns.
