Bengaluru, March 18, 2026: At a time when questions of faith, justice, and social responsibility are increasingly intertwined, a national seminar scheduled for April aims to revisit and rearticulate the Church’s prophetic role in India.
The Indian Theological Association, in collaboration with the National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre, will host a two-day academic seminar titled “The Prophetic Witness of the Church Today” on April 11–12 at the NBCLC campus in Bengaluru.
The gathering is expected to bring together theologians, scholars, researchers, and students from across the country, offering a platform for critical engagement with contemporary socio-cultural realities. Organisers say the seminar seeks to encourage deeper theological reflection on how the Church can respond meaningfully to present-day challenges with renewed clarity of mission.
Conceived as a space for dialogue and scholarly exchange, the seminar is open to men who are pursuing or have completed doctoral studies in theology, as well as to women who have completed or are currently pursuing Master of Theology (MTh) and doctoral programmes.
The theme highlights the urgency for the Church to rediscover and embody its prophetic identity in a rapidly changing world. Through academic presentations, discussions, and reflective sessions, participants will explore ways of responding to current realities with courage and fidelity to Gospel values.
Organisers emphasise that the initiative goes beyond academic inquiry, aiming to bridge theological reflection with lived pastoral experience. By fostering such engagement, the seminar hopes to inspire participants to become authentic witnesses in their respective ministries and contexts.
The NBCLC, widely recognised for its contributions to biblical, catechetical, and liturgical formation in India, provides a fitting venue for this national-level engagement. As preparations continue, the collaborative effort reflects an ongoing commitment to strengthening theological dialogue and nurturing a renewed prophetic vision for the Church in India.
