J&K Convent School’s Public Apology Highlights Need for Prudence in Administration

REASI, Jammu and Kashmir, May 29, 2026: An apology issued by the principal of Presentation Convent High School after an Eid greeting shared on the school’s official social media platform unintentionally hurt religious sentiments has drawn attention to the growing need for educational institutions to exercise greater caution and sensitivity in public communication, particularly in the digital age.

The controversy arose following a festive greeting posted on May 27 that included AI-generated animal imagery. While the message was intended to convey goodwill and communal harmony during Eid celebrations, objections were raised by some members of the public who found the imagery insensitive to religious sentiments.

Responding to the concerns, the school principal issued an unconditional apology on behalf of the institution and its management. In the statement, she clarified that the greeting had been shared “with the intention of conveying festive wishes, peace, harmony and goodwill among all communities on the occasion of Eid.”

Acknowledging the concerns expressed by sections of the community, the principal stated that the institution deeply regretted the unintended hurt caused by the imagery used in the post. “It has been brought to our notice that the imagery used in the communication hurt the religious sentiments and sensitivity of some members of the community,” the statement read. “I deeply regret the same and offer my heartfelt apology to all those who were hurt and offended.”

The principal emphasised that there had been no deliberate intention to disrespect any religion or community. She noted that the image formed part of the greeting design and was included without malicious intent. Reaffirming the institution’s commitment to communal harmony and mutual respect, the school reiterated its dedication to fostering peace and inclusiveness among people of all faiths.

The controversial post was removed from the school’s social media platforms soon after concerns were brought to the administration’s attention. According to the statement, corrective steps were immediately initiated to prevent misunderstanding and public discomfort.

Importantly, the incident has sparked wider reflection on the responsibilities educational institutions carry while communicating through digital platforms. With schools and colleges increasingly relying on social media for public engagement, observers note that even well-intentioned posts can lead to unintended consequences if not reviewed carefully for cultural and religious sensitivity.

The principal herself acknowledged this responsibility, stating that educational institutions must ensure “sensitivity, prudence and due care in all public communications.” She added that the school is strengthening its internal review mechanisms to avoid similar incidents in the future.

In an era where artificial intelligence tools and instant digital publishing are becoming common in institutional communication, the episode serves as a reminder that technology must always be guided by human discernment, empathy and responsible oversight. For faith-based educational institutions in particular, communication that reflects respect for diversity and awareness of social sensitivities remains an essential part of their public witness and mission.

Describing the incident as “completely unintentional,” the principal appealed to the public not to misunderstand the institution’s intentions or associate the school with any form of religious disrespect. She reaffirmed the school’s commitment to “fostering unity, inclusion and respect for all communities.”
