Jabalpur Diocese Hosts Conference Focused on Discerning the Synodal Pathway

Jabalpur, April 9, 2025 – The Diocese of Jabalpur hosted a diocesan-level conference from April 8 to 9 at St. Aloysius College, Jabalpur. The conference focused on exploring and discerning the synodal pathway. Organised by the diocesan leadership, the one-day event brought together 140 participants—including priests and religious from across the diocese—to reflect on the theme of synodality and its significance for the future of the Church in Jabalpur.


The conference opened on April 8 with an inaugural session presided over by His Lordship Dr. Valan Arasu, Bishop of Jabalpur. In his welcome address, Bishop Arasu introduced the central theme of the conference, emphasising the importance of journeying together as a synodal Church.


His Excellency Dr. George Anthonysamy, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, served as the chief resource person for the conference. Renowned for his engaging style and relatable anecdotes, Archbishop Anthonysamy captivated the audience while shedding light on various dimensions of synodality. His insightful and humour-filled presentations helped make complex theological concepts more accessible and engaging.


The conference featured six focused sessions that fostered dialogue and deep reflection among participants. Each session explored key aspects of the synodal journey. The sessions helped create greater awareness and commitment among the attendees towards the evolving vision of the Church.


The conference was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Fr. Ben Anton, Diocesan Secretary, and Fr. Stalin, Joint Secretary. Their meticulous planning and dedication were instrumental in the smooth execution and overall success of the event.


The conference marked a significant step forward in deepening the understanding and commitment of the Church in Jabalpur towards the synodal journey. It reaffirmed the call of the Universal Church to walk together in faith and mission.
