NEW DELHI, August 7, 2026: Indian Catholic communicator Dr. Magimai Pragasam has been elected Vice President of SIGNIS World, the World Catholic Association for Communication, in a development hailed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) as a landmark achievement for Catholic communications in the country.
Most Rev. Rayarala Vijaya Kumar, PIME, Chairman of the CBCI Office for Social Communications and Ecclesiastical Advisor of SIGNIS India, congratulated Dr. Pragasam on his election and commended his decades of service to Catholic communication.
In a statement issued on August 7, Bishop Vijaya Kumar described the election as recognition of Dr. Pragasam’s professional experience, leadership and commitment to ethical and faith-based communication.
“Dr. Magimai Pragasam’s election as Vice President of SIGNIS World is a matter of immense joy and pride for the Church in India,” the bishop said.
He expressed confidence that Dr. Pragasam’s experience and expertise would contribute to strengthening SIGNIS’ mission of promoting communication grounded in Gospel values, human dignity and ethical responsibility.
SIGNIS brings together Catholic media professionals and communication organisations from around the world and seeks to promote communication in the service of dialogue, peace, justice and human dignity. Its mission has assumed added significance amid rapid changes in digital media and the growing influence of new communication technologies.
As Vice President, Dr. Pragasam will join the international leadership of SIGNIS in guiding its mission in an increasingly interconnected and digitally driven world.
Bishop Vijaya Kumar also congratulated the newly elected SIGNIS World Board of Directors and expressed hope that the new leadership would guide the organisation with wisdom, creativity and a renewed commitment to its global mission.
He prayed for the President, Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary General and members of the Board, seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance, courage and grace as they undertake their responsibilities.
The CBCI Office for Social Communications joined Catholic communicators across India in welcoming Dr. Pragasam’s election and assured the new SIGNIS leadership of its prayers and support.
Dr. Pragasam’s election marks a significant moment for Indian Catholic communications, reflecting the contribution of Indian professionals to journalism, media, digital evangelisation and communication ministry.
His elevation to the international leadership of SIGNIS also gives India a stronger voice in global conversations on communication, evangelisation and digital engagement.
