Bengaluru , August 5, 2026: The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has announced the recruitment of 11 Staff Car Driver (Ordinary Grade) posts in Karnataka under the Mail Motor Service (MMS), Bengaluru. The vacancies will be filled on a deputation or absorption basis, primarily from eligible employees within the Department of Posts and, if necessary, from other Central Government departments and eligible Armed Forces personnel.
The recruitment notification, issued by the Office of the Manager, Mail Motor Service, Bengaluru, offers an opportunity for experienced government drivers to join one of India Post's key transport units responsible for the movement of mail across the region.
According to the notification, 10 vacancies have been earmarked for the Mail Motor Service in Bengaluru, while one vacancy is available at the MMS Sub Depot in Mysuru.
The selected candidates will be appointed as Staff Car Drivers (Ordinary Grade) under Pay Level-2 of the Seventh Central Pay Commission, carrying a salary ranging from ₹19,900 to ₹63,200, in addition to admissible Central Government allowances.
The Department has clarified that the number of vacancies and the place of posting may change depending on administrative requirements.
The recruitment is open exclusively to serving Central Government employees and eligible Armed Forces personnel under the prescribed deputation or absorption rules.

Preference will also be given to candidates who have served for at least three years as Home Guards or Civil Volunteers.
The notification also permits applications from Armed Forces personnel who are due to retire or be transferred to the reserve within one year, subject to the prescribed conditions.
The maximum age for appointment by deputation or absorption is 56 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications.
Selection will not be based on a written examination. Instead, eligible candidates will undergo a Driving Test and Trade Test to assess their competence in operating both light and heavy motor vehicles, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Posts.
Applications will first be scrutinised to ensure candidates meet the prescribed eligibility criteria before being called for the practical tests.

Candidates are required to submit self-attested copies of several documents, including educational qualifications, valid driving licences, driving experience certificates, appointment orders, vigilance clearance, integrity certificate, APARs for the last five years, and other supporting records specified in the notification.
