"Hope in God's Word Strengthens and Heals," Says Bishop Simião at Bible Course Event

Goa, 1 April 2025: Auxiliary Bishop of Goa and Daman, Simião Fernandes, emphasised the power and authority of the Word of God, urging the faithful to place their hope in it. He delivered this message during a homily on the theme "I Hope on Your Word" at St. Michael’s Church, Anjuna, as part of the Diploma Day Mass for the Bible Course organised by the Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate.

Fr. Mariano D'Costa, Director of Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate; Fr. Shantiago, Parish Priest of Anjuna; Fr. Peter Simon Fernandes, Dean of Siolim deanery and other priests from Siolim deanery concelebrated the Eucharistic celebration.

Bishop Fernandes highlighted that throughout the History of Salvation, many placed their hope in the Word of God, recognising its transformative strength. "The Word of God has the power to strengthen our lives, heal us, and bring us into the family of Jesus," he stated. He also stressed that through the Word, believers grow in righteousness.

The Bishop encouraged participants of the Bible Course to not only apply the teachings they had received but also share them with others. “Let the knowledge of the Word guide your life and spread its strength to others,” he urged.

The Bible course, held from July 2024 to February 2025, drew 109 participants from the parishes of Anjuna, Assagao, Camurlim (Bardez), Guirim, and Vagator. Spanning 24 sessions, the course covered an Introduction to the Bible, Salvation History, and The Gospel.

Maria Conceição C. Jessie Dias, the Biblical Animator of the parish, expressed heartfelt gratitude. Fr. Mariano D’Costa, Director of the Diocesan Biblical Centre for Biblical Apostolate, and Fr. Santiago Fernandes SFX, Parish Priest of Anjuna Church, also addressed the gathering. Evelyn D'Souza served as the liturgical commentator.

Following the Mass, a cultural programme featured songs, skits, Mando performances, and instrumental music. Maria Dancho and Leena Mendonça shared their experiences of participating in the course.

The event reinforced the transformative power of God’s Word and encouraged participants to share its wisdom.
