Goa Remembers Venerable Agnelo de Souza Through the Hymn “Padr Agnel”

Goa, January 21, 2026: Bringing to the fore the holiness, pastoral zeal, and enduring spiritual legacy of Venerable Agnelo de Souza, a Konkani hymn titled “Padr Agnel” was released on the occasion of his 157th birth anniversary. The tribute focused on the life and virtues of the saintly priest of the Society of Pilar, remembered across Goa as one of its most beloved spiritual figures.

The hymn presented Venerable Agnelo as a man deeply rooted in prayer, constantly on his knees before Jesus, surrendering his life entirely to God’s will and seeking divine assistance in all things. Through its verses, he was portrayed as a prince of love, a close friend of Jesus, profoundly devoted to the Blessed Trinity, and a tireless guide who called people to walk steadfastly on the path of goodness.

A significant focus of the song was Venerable Agnelo’s commitment to catechetical instruction, particularly among children. Described as a pillar of faith, he was shown as one who proclaimed the teachings of Jesus with simplicity, devotion, and authenticity. His humility marked every aspect of his ministry, making him a refuge for sinners and a shelter for the poor and the needy, drawing countless people to Christ through his compassionate presence.

The lyrics of “Padr Agnel” were written by Fr. Peter Fernandes SFX, while the music was composed by Fr. Peter Cardozo SFX and produced by the Pilar Music Academy. The hymn was rendered by Cielda Pereira, a well-known Konkani singer from Goa, together with Fr. Peter Cardoso SFX, lending the composition a deeply prayerful character.

The technical work of recording, sequencing, mixing, mastering, and video production was undertaken by Fr. Myron Sequeira SFX and Mr. Fevan Cruz, with violin accompaniment by Claster Cardoso. The song was recorded at the Pilar Music Academy Studio in Margao, Goa.

Released on the Pilar Music Academy’s YouTube channel, “Padr Agnel” stood as a prayerful reflection on the sanctity and virtues of Venerable Agnelo de Souza, a beloved son of Goa whose life of humility and holiness continues to inspire generations and draw hearts closer to Christ.
