Documentary on Mother Teresa Premieres Across Missionaries of Charity Centres in Kolkata

Kolkata, October 20, 2025 — Journalist and activist Anto Akkara concluded a 13-day series of screenings of his latest documentary, “Mother Teresa—Prophet of Compassion,” across ten Missionaries of Charity centres in Kolkata. The film, which captures the enduring legacy of Mother Teresa’s life and mission, was shown to Missionaries of Charity sisters, residents, and guests, including Archbishop Emeritus Thomas D’Souza, who attended the screening at Green Park near the Kolkata airport.

The documentary was screened at various Missionaries of Charity homes, including centres caring for over 300 mentally ill and differently-abled women. The screenings formed part of Akkara’s wider initiative to share stories of compassion and service inspired by Mother Teresa’s mission.

A highlight of the visit was Akkara’s stop at Motijhil slum, the humble site where Mother Teresa began her mission on 28 December 1948. It was there that she opened an open-air school under a tree, teaching the Bengali alphabet to children by writing on the ground with a stick.

The visit to Motijhil served as a poignant reminder of the simplicity, love, and faith that defined Mother Teresa’s early ministry—values that continue to inspire the Missionaries of Charity and the faithful worldwide.
