Diocese of Vijayawada Hosts Seminar on Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue

Vijayawada, November 5, 2026: The TCBC Commission for Ecumenism and Dialogue, in collaboration with the CCBI Commission for Ecumenism, organised a one-day seminar at the Bishop’s House, Vijayawada, on November 4, focusing on Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism as Integral Dimensions of the Mission of the Church. The seminar was part of the ongoing efforts to form the people of God in the mission of ecumenism and dialogue, bringing together around 95 participants, including bishops, priests, religious brothers and sisters.

The programme featured presentations by Dr. Vincent Sekhar, S.J., who explored the historical and practical dimensions of the Church’s relationships with other Christian communities and people belonging to different religious traditions. He highlighted the importance of fostering mutual understanding and building harmonious relationships at the grassroots level.

He also emphasised the need to develop neighbourhood-based communities, such as Basic Human Communities, as effective spaces for promoting dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. His reflections were followed by interactions during which participants raised questions and sought further clarifications.

In his message, Bishop Anthony Das Pilli of Nellore, Coadjutor Bishop of Nellore and Chairman of the TCBC Commissions for Ecumenism and Dialogue, stressed the importance of respecting others, treating everyone equally and working together for the welfare of all humanity.

Bishop T. Joseph Raja Rao of Vijayawada underscored the significance of Christian unity and encouraged the organisation of common ecumenical programmes in the diocese. He also highlighted the need to strengthen and extend relationships with people belonging to other religious traditions.

Fr. K. Anthaiah, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Ecumenism, expressed his gratitude to the Diocese of Vijayawada for hosting the seminar and for its commitment to promoting ecumenism and interreligious dialogue in the diocese and across the Telugu region.

The seminar provided an opportunity for reflection and interaction, reinforcing the importance of making ecumenism and dialogue integral dimensions of the Church’s mission.
