Meghalaya to Organise State-backed Gospel Concerts in Khasi and Garo Hills

SHILLONG, November 4, 2026: The Meghalaya government plans to organise gospel music concerts in the Khasi and Garo Hills in partnership with major Church denominations to promote Christian music and celebrate the state’s faith traditions.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that one concert would be organised in the Khasi Hills in collaboration with the Presbyterian Church, while another would be held in the Garo Hills with the support of the Baptist Church.

Emphasising the need to give gospel music greater prominence alongside other musical genres, Sangma said, “We must celebrate our faith as individuals, and while we promote other forms of music, we must also promote gospel music.”

The Chief Minister also said he had instructed officials at the Meghalaya Pavilion to ensure that music is played daily, with Sundays dedicated exclusively to gospel music.

The proposed concerts are part of the state government's efforts to provide greater visibility to gospel music and recognise its place in Meghalaya's cultural and religious life.
