Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, May 26, 2025: The Catholic Diocese of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh inaugurated its Diocesan Synod on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Jeevasudha Pastoral Centre, Venkayapalle, Kurnool. The event, which will run until May 30, brings together 121 priests and nuns for a four-day reflective gathering aimed at formulating a renewed pastoral and administrative vision for the diocese.
The event was inaugurated by Bishop Gorantla Johannes, OCD, who presided over the inaugural Holy Mass as the chief celebrant, accompanied by several priests.
In his opening address during the morning session, Bishop Johannes called on the participants to engage in a threefold listening—listening to the voice of the Spirit, to the cries of the people of the diocese, and to one another. This, he emphasised, would open their minds to fresh perspectives and allow them to collaboratively prepare a project of life for the diocese.
The Synod aims to develop an elaborate pastoral plan that not only revitalises parish ministry but also outlines consistent administrative policies across the diocese.
The second session on the first day of the Synod focused on "Liturgical Life in the Diocese". A short report prepared by the Synod’s preparatory committee was presented, followed by group discussions designed to collect the views and suggestions of the participants.
The Diocesan Synod will continue through May 30, 2025, with further sessions dedicated to key pastoral, liturgical, and administrative themes impacting the diocese.
